Okies, Too, Learn Renewable Energy Subsidies No Longer Affordable

Oklahoma has produced more wind energy per capita than just about any place else but the costs of the renewable energy subsidies are wholly unsustainable.

The situation is different in every state.  I know from my reading that Oklahoma's state budget is in terrible shape, to the extent that school kids are attending school for only 4 days of the week in order that Oklahoma can save some money.  As to the wind generation facilities I think an important element in how they got as much support as they have so far is that so many rural land owners have a financial stake in them.  Having a huge windmill on your property doesn't bring in the same kind of money as does a productive gas well with the gas selling at a fair price, but there is enough money in the way of a rental to make a difference in the lives of a lot of farmers and others who own land.  I believe the average income from a wind generator runs about 500 to 1000 dollars a month, usually with the compensation set at a variable amount dependent upon production and the value of the electricity.  In many farming and ranching communities that more or less steady money from wind takes up the slack when wheat or corn or cattle are low in price and barely worth the raising.
